Real-Time
One of the most misunderstood terms in computing is "real-time". Many people think it means "better" performance -- whatever that means -- but what it really means is determinism. That is, for a given event, you are guaranteed to get a response withing a certain time constraint. Often this means that the operating system actually gets less work done per unit time compared to a non-real-time version of the same operating system/kernel. Understanding your device's performance can be difficult, and optimizing its performance can be a tricky and intricate process so don't go it alone.
